T. R. Lawing

Thomas Ranson Lawing, Sr., 86, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014, after a rich and full life. He was born September 1, 1927 in Charlotte, youngest of three children of Algie Wesley Lawing and Saloma Tucker Lawing. He graduated from Central High School and N.C. State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Catherine H. Lawing, in 1948 and they had three children. 


From tinkering on his Model A to building a summer cottage, from leading BSA Troop 5 to organizing reunions for his Central High School classmates, from camping across America with his family to singing in his church's choir, from building his own company to posing for the family Christmas card, Chief enjoyed his family, the world around him and life itself.


T. R. Lawing founded his own company in 1957 and served as its president until 1995. He was a lifetime member of Hawthorne Lane UMC, the W. J. Miller Sunday school class and sang in his church's choir for more than 50 years. He was a President of his senior high school class, Alpha Gamma Rho alumnus, 33rd degree Mason, President and Realtor Of The Year of both the Charlotte Regional Realtors Assoc and the N.C. Association of Realtors, President of the Myers Park Trinity Little League, Chair of the HLUMC Church Council, Director and lifetime volunteer at Aldersgate Retirement Community, Director of Mutual Savings & Loan Assoc, Senior Residential Appraiser (SRA), Certified Property Manager (CPM) and BSA Silver Beaver recipient.



He is survived by his son (Tommy Jr.) and daughter-in-law (Dianne); his daughter (Cathy) and son-in-law (Tom); and his daughter-in-law (Nanette); six grandchildren - Tripp Lawing (Beth); Joe Rempson (Rachel); Eddie Rempson (Shelley); Courtney Simpson (Will); Ashley Beam (Matt); and Wes Lawing (Cheryl) - plus 14 great-grandchildren - Peter Lawing; Avery, Cole and Ryann Rempson; Zee, Zanna, Zoe, Zella and Zane Rempson; Cate and Sadie Oliver; Jackson, Davis and Emma Beam - and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers (Algie W. Lawing, Jr. and William J. Lawing), his son (Bob) and one great-grandson (Preston).
